Serge's Case — Choking — Police Report Client: Serge, Accused Police Report: The victim and accused in this matter have been married for fourteen years and have four children together. They resided together at 81 Saba Drive in the City of Toronto. On Saturday, the 2nd of May 1998, the victim reports that her husband got angry at her for something or other. She can't remember what, and they were arguing in the bedroom. All of a sudden, he jumped on the bed where she was, grabbed her about the throat, and started choking her. The victim struggled with the accused and he eventually let go of her. This incident came to light on the 24th of June when the victim reported subsequent assaults. On Saturday, the 2nd of May 1998, the two were hosting a birthday party for their son. At some point in the afternoon, the victim and accused got into an argument, fifteen minutes before the guests were to arrive. The accused became enraged and forced his wife onto the balcony of their second floor bedroom. He then locked the door and refused to let her out for about twenty minutes, despite her repeatedly asking him. The accused eventually let her off the balcony, and she was able to join her guests. This incident came to light when the victim reported subsequent domestic events on the 24th of June 1998. On Wednesday, the 24th of June 1998, the couple began arguing about money and their marriage counsellor. The accused then grabbed the victim around the throat with both hands, pushing his thumbs into her throat, blocking her air passage. The victim couldn't breathe and begged the accused to stop. The accused let go of the victim at that point, and she ran out of the house into the backyard, screaming. The accused ran after her, grabbed her around the waist, and dragged her back into the house. They again were arguing about money, but then agreed to go to the bank together. Once at the front of the house, the victim spied a friend up the street, and took off from the accused. The victim called police from her friend's house and reported the incidents. The accused turned himself into police later on that day. The victim suffered a scratch under her right ear, a bruise on the left side of her jaw, and a scratch to her right waist as a result of these assaults. The victim was complaining of an extremely sore throat, and will seek her own medical attention. |
