Quint's Case — Communicate with Prostitute — on the lam

Client:  Quint T., Accused
Complainant:  Toronto Police Service
Charge:  communicate to obtain the sexual services of a prostitute

Background:  Drugs had stolen most of Quint's adult life. Things were better now. He had won his battle with drugs and was employed full time. There was, though, one remaining thorn. Over five years ago, he had been arrested for trying to pick up a prostitute. He never showed up in Court. An arrrest warrant was issued. Quint had long worried about being arrested. With the warrant headed for its six birthday, Quint was ready to tackle this remaining skeleton.

Goals:  Quint wanted to avoid being arrested and to finalize the matter without a criminal record. I added another goal — to avoid being additionally charged with failing to appear in Court.

Strategy:  After the meeting, I walked over to the Old City Hall Courts to obtain a copy of the warrant and the charge. The next day I attended upon the Crown's office with a letter from Quint's doctor confirming that he had been in drug rehabilitation when he failed to show up in Court and for some time thereafter.

Results:  With Quint's renaissance, the Crown agreed to cancel the warrant and to withdraw the charge. He would only have to donate $500 to charity. A few days later we attended Court. The Judge rescinded the warrant. The Crown withdrew the charge.
