Martin's Case — Assault (domestic) — Police Report

Police Report:  Background: The complainant, Rene B., and the accused, her husband Martin B., have been married for the past eight years. They were married in Hungary and came to Canada about 8 years ago. They have one child together, a four-year-old girl. They are both employed.

Police Report — Assault, Charge #1: On Saturday, October 23, 2004, the complainant and the accused were at home located at 154 P**** Road in the City of Toronto. They were in the bedroom, discussing financial matters. They became involved in verbal argument. The four-year-old daughter then enters the bedroom and the suspect then punched the victim on her face while she still held her son. The force of the punch caused her to strike the door. The accused then grabbed her by the throat. She was able to escape his grip and ran into the living room area with her child. The accused left the apartment and was not heard of for the next two days.

This incident was not reported to the police.

The victim sustained redness and a sore head as a result of this assault. On today's date, police were contacted and through investigation, this incident came to light. The complainant provided the investigating officer with a signed statement as to what occurred.

He was charged accordingly.

Police Report — Assault, Charge #2: On Saturday, April 23, 2005 at about 9:45 a.m., the complainant and the accused were at home located at 154 P**** Road in the City of Vaughan. At this time, they were discussing family financial matters. The discussion continued until the accused became angry. He stood up from the couch and approached the complainant. He grabbed her by the right arm, twisting it, and forced her off the couch. He then placed his free hand on the back of her neck and pushed her head forward towards the floor. The child who was also in the room began to cry. The accused then let go and left the apartment.

The complainant contacted police and provided the investigating office with a signed statement.

The victim received redness and a sore right arm.

The accused was contacted by the investigating officer and attended 33 Division. He was charged accordingly.
