Keifer's Case — Assault (domestic) — Police Report

Police Report:   On Saturday February 12, 2005 at approximately 3:20 p.m. the accused Keifer G. was arrested outside of his residence located at 507 D*** Street in the town of Ajax.

At the time the accused was arrested for domestic assault and the grounds for the arrest were based on sworn video testimony provided to the police by the victim Mandi G.

On Saturday February 11, 2005 the accused and the victim were in attendance at their residence located at 507 D*** Street in the town of Ajax. At approximately 8:30 p.m. the accused and victim became involved in a verbal argument that escalated into a physical confrontation. The victim stated that the accused demanded that she leave the matrimonial home and he grabbed her by the pajamas top and pushed her up against a fridge located in the couple's kitchen. The victim became fearful and left the family residence without reporting the incident to police.

On Sunday February 12, 2005 at approximately 1153 hrs the victim attended 1710 Kingston Road (19 Division) Durham Regional Police with her parents. At the time she advised that the couple had been married for over 5 years and that they have three daughters together ages 6, 4, and 4. She further advised that throughout that time the accused has been verbally abusive. She stated that she has been receiving counselling for the abuse for several years and had planned on leaving the accused in April.

Initially the victim had only intended to question police regarding her legal rights as to possession of the matrimonial home. It wasn't until police questioned the victim regarding the evening events that the assault was uncovered. The victim stated that the accused had overheard her speaking with a male friend and that his suspicions of her infidelity led to the physical assault. The victim did not receive any injuries from the assault.

The victim stated that the couple's three children were in attendance during the argument but that they had been upstairs in their room and had not witnessed the assault.

On Saturday February 12, 2005 police contacted the accused Keifer G. and arranged to meet him at his residence. At that time he was advised that he was being investigated for a domestic assault.

At 3:20 p.m. the accused met with the writer and was subsequently arrested for domestic assault. The accused was read Rights to Counsel and cautioned all of which were understood. He was then transported to 19 Division were he was paraded by Staff Sgt. Anderson #347. The accused then had a private conversation with duty counsel Vigeant.

The accused was co-operative with police but declined to provide any statements. He was transported to Oshawa 17 Division were he will be held until a bail hearing in the morning.

Officers did attend the family residence and the children appeared to be in good health and well taken care of.

The writer will forward a copy of this report to Children's Aid Society for follow-up.

The victim advised police that she would seek counselling on her own and would not need to be contacted by victim services.
