Withdrawn — Assault (domestic) — Police ReportClient: Imran
R., Accused Police Report: The Accused, Imran R., and victim, Sadhu R., first met in May 1996 in Pakistan while the Accused was on holidays. The Accused returned to Canada in June 1996. The Accused returned to Pakistan in November 1996, and in December 1996 both the Accused and victim returned to Canada together. The two courted each other over the following months and on July 11, 1997, they were married at Toronto City Hall. The Accused and the victim began to live together at 9* Hilton Square, Apartment 5**, in the City of Toronto. The victim remained at home, as a homemaker, while the Accused went out to work. On Friday the 15th of August 1997, at approximately 10:00 p.m., the Accused, Imran R., came home and wanted to have sex with the victim. The victim had gone to the bedroom earlier because she was not feeling well, and rejected the advances of the Accused. The Accused then slapped the victim on the face. The victim stood up, got out of bed, and was pushed back onto the bed. The Accused continued to fight with the victim, slapping her 4-5 times on the face, and kicking her 2-3 times on the legs during which he was verbally abusing her. The Accused then stated: "If you call the police I will kill you and throw you out." The victim was very frightened by the anger displayed by the Accused. The victim believed the Accused and was so frightened that she never contacted the police during the entire time she lived with the Accused. Injuries: No visible signs of injury. No medical attention sought The Accused and victim continued to live together at this residence until September 1, 1997, when they moved to 7** Karl Street, Apartment 9**, in the City of Toronto. During this time period, the victim describes her quality of life as very poor. The Accused would come home from work, and daily and continually verbally abuse the victim. If the Accused felt the victim had not completed her household chores for the day, or if the meals were not prepared to his liking, the victim would be assaulted. These assaults were minor in nature, consisting of a slap to the face or the pulling of her hair. However, the victim described the assaults as continuous, usually 2-3 times a week, and is not able to recall each incident clearly. On September 2, 1997, the victim was at home at 7** Karl Street, Apartment 9**, in the City of Toronto. At approximately 6:00 p.m., the Accused arrived home and began to argue with the victim, complaining that household duties had not been completed to his liking. The Accused grabbed the victim by the hair, and then began to bang her head against the wall. The victim did not feel well and wanted to be taken to the hospital. Later that evening, the Accused agreed to transport the victim to the hospital. Upon arrival at the hospital the victim and Accused attended in the emergency waiting room. The Accused decided that the victim should not see the doctor and demanded that they return home. The victim did not see a doctor at this time. The Accused began to drive back home with the victim as the passenger. At approximately 12:20 a.m. on the 3rd of September, 1997, while on route home on Karl Street in the City of Toronto, the Accused and the victim began to argue once more. The Accused reached out and punched the victim with a closed fist on the left cheek. He continued to assault the victim by slapping her 2 to 3 more times on the face. The victim demanded to be let out of the vehicle. When the Accused refused to stop the car, the victim exited the vehicle while it was still in motion. The victim was subsequently run over by the vehicle. The victim was transported to St. Michael's Hospital and treated for a broken pelvis. The victim remained in the hospital for the next twenty days. The victim returned home from hospital to 7** Karl Street, Apartment 9**, in the City of Toronto early in the month of October 1997. At this time, the victim was still incapacitated from the motor vehicle accident and was using a pair of crutches to get around. Once again the Accused returned home and began to argue with the victim over her inability to perform her household chores of cooking and cleaning. This time the Accused punched the victim on the upper right side of her chest and shoulder. This punch left the victim with a large bruise over the right side of her upper chest area. Injuries: Bruising to the right upper chest. No medical attention received. The victim was physically abused intermittently from this date in October until March of 1998. The abuse was so often that the victim is unable to recall the number of times or on what dates the abuse was committed. On March 9, 1998, the victim was at her home at 7** Karl Street, Apartment 9**, in the City of Toronto. At approximately 2:00 p.m., the Accused returned home and became angry because the victim had not completed her household chores to his liking. The Accused grabbed the victim with one hand by the neck and began to squeeze. The victim began to scream. The Accused continued to apply pressure to the victim's throat and pinned her to the wall. The victim began to feel dizzy and continued screaming. The Accused released his grip of the victim's throat and then slapped her a few times on the face. The Accused then told the victim: "I will kill you and throw you out." The Accused went to the washroom. The victim went to the bedroom and contacted her friend on the telephone. While the victim was on the telephone to her friend the Accused entered the bedroom, and seeing the victim on the telephone, once again began to slap the victim about the head. The telephone was left open and the friend could hear the assault in progress. The victim's friend contacted the police to attend at the address. The police attended and spoke to the victim and the Accused. At this time the victim was too frightened of the Accused to complain to the police Officers. The victim was escorted from the apartment at her request and turned over to her friend who was waiting to take her home. The victim at a later date came forward and laid a private information resulting in a summons being issued to the Accused to attend Court. This information was supplied to the investigating Officer. The incident was a Domestic Assault, and, as a result of further investigation, these charges were laid. |
