Darren's Case — Sexual Exploitation — Police Report

Charges:  sexual assault (2x), sexual interference, sexual exploitation, and invitation to sexual touching

Police Report:  Between the 1st day of January 2004 and the 23rd day of January 2005, in the Municipality of Cobourg, Ontario, Darren P. did commit the offences of sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, and sexual assault against his daughter Tara P., contrary to the Criminal Code.

Between the 23rd of January 2005 and the 31st of August 2006, in the Municipality of Cobourg, Ontario, Darren P. did commit the offences of sexual exploitation and sexual assault against the daughter, Tara P., contrary to Criminal Code.

Between the 1st day of January 2006 and the 31st day of August 2006, in the Province of Ontario, Darren P. did commit the offence of sexual exploitation contrary to the Criminal Code.

The offences started when Tara was 13 years old. Tara, her sister Amber, her mother Lorna, and her father Darren were living at 8823 Oilers Road, Municipality of Cobourg, Ontario at the time. The first sexual incident occurred when Tara was taking a shower one day. She recalls she told her mother she was going to take a shower. Her father then came in, got undressed and got into the shower with her. He started kissing her. He told her he loved her. This incident stopped when she got out of the shower. Tara describes the kissing as more than just a kiss on the lips — the kissing included him using his tongue.

Tara states that this happened almost every time she took a shower. Her routine at that time was showering twice a week — every Wednesday and Sunday nights. She estimates she probably only had 20 showers alone.

When Tara turned 14, these incidents of getting into the shower with her and kissing her continued, but he started to ask her to perform fellatio on him. She recalls that the first time this happened, she said "no," and was going to get out of the shower, but her father held her in the shower with one hand, and with the other hand, held his penis toward her, trying to get her to perform fellatio on him. She was able to get away from him and get out of the shower.

She started to have showers with her sister so that her dad wouldn't come in with them, but this didn't always happen and he still managed to get into the shower with her.

Tara P.'s father then started pulling her into bed next to her mother at night. She estimated that this happened four times. Twice when she was 14 and twice when she was 15. These incidents would happen when she would give him a hug to say goodnight. He would pick her up, put her into bed next to her mother and then he would kiss her. She would then make an excuse, like she had to go to the bathroom or she would start coughing like she was gagging, get out of their bed and go to her own bed.

Tara recalls that one day when she was 14, she told her mother that she couldn't stand her father trying to have sex with her anymore. Tara says that her mother was shocked when she told her this. Tara's mother didn't give any indication that she knew this was going on, but, Tara thinks her mother knew because her dad would always go into the the shower with her.

At that time, Tara's mother told her that Tara's sister, Amber, was having sex with their father. Tara's mother was upset with this and states that on one occasion, she caught them in bed together. Tara's mother further told Tara that her father had asked Amber if she would like to have a child with him and Amber said "yes."

Tara also caught her father in bed with her sister, Amber, on one occasion. She recalls it was during the day in 2006, around March or February. Tara states she went upstairs to get a sweater and saw them in bed together under the covers. They were in her mother and father's bed.

When Tara turned 15, her father started rubbing and fondling her breasts and genitals while kissing her in the shower. Tara estimates he did this around 15 times. She said that he continued to ask her to perform fellatio on him or rub his penis, but she never touched him. She said he would also ask her on a number of occasions to have sex with him, but she always said "no."

The last time Tara's father did something sexual with her was this year when they were staying in their tent on someone else's property, somewhere when they were in western Ontario. They had left their house on Oilers Road in April 2006 and by July they were living in their truck. Everyone was in the tent going to bed. Tara went to hug her father good night and he started kissing her. Her father got an erection and so her mother performed fellatio on him while he was still kissing Tara.

After this incident, Tara refused to let her father touch her and so her father started being rude and mean to her. He told her she was no good, useless, and he wished she wasn't part of the family.

Tara also disclosed that her father was physically abusive to her and her mother. He also physically abused her sister, Amber, but not as much. Tara recalled one incident in particular that she describes as one of the worst times he physically abused her. This incident occurred after her 14th birthday when her mother was sick and she was helping her mother. They were having supper and Tara's dad thought she was getting food for herself first and was mad. After dinner, Tara was baking cookies and her mom said something to her dad that made him mad. He came to Tara in the kitchen, grabbed her at the back of her neck, and started to throw and push her around. She was screaming and he was swearing at her. He then dragged her over to where her mother and sister were, with his hand around her throat, choking her and made her apologize to them. He told her she ruined his life, she embarrassed him, she was a no-good bitch, and she doesn't care about her mom and sister. Tara states that she had purple marks on her neck, her shoulder blade was sore and her back and head were sore, as he had shaken her.

In August 2006, she decided to go live with her grandmother in Belleville. For two months, Tara, her sister, her mother, and her father hadn't been eating right. They had been living off the barbeque and they had been living on the road since April. Tara knew she would be looked after, cared for, fed right, and clothed right at her grandmother's. When they had returned to Oilers Road to stay on the farm again, Tara decided to leave home and rode her bicycle four hours to her grandmother's house in Belleville.

Tara disclosed these sexual incidents to her grandmother on the 1st of December 2006, after they had an argument and her grandmother threatened to send her back to live with her parents.

Tara states that her father never told her not to say anything, but believes that if she ever told anyone about what her father had done to her, he would have murdered her.
