Daisy's Case — Dangerous Driving — Police Report

Client:  Daisy J., Accused
Complainant:  Peel Regional Police
Charge:  dangerous driving causing bodily harm

Police Report — Initial:  On Friday May 4, 2007, at approximately 12:12 a.m., police responded to a vehicle collision that occurred at Carrie Parkway and Erin Station Road, in the City of Mississauga.

Police arrived on scene and observed a Toyota Matrix, 4 door, grey, with plate number RTM 385 had collided with a concrete hydro pole on the south side of Carrie Parkway, just east of Erin Station Road, in the City of Mississauga. Two male victims outside the vehicle were laying on the ground. A female driver was belted and unconscious but breathing.

Fire services were called and when on scene they worked for approximately 45 minutes to extract the female from the vehicle.

Upon investigation, the female driver was identified as Daisy J., of 333 Petty Drive, Aurora. Daisy was travelling approximately over 100 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone on Carrie Parkway Eastbound direction. Both passengers had asked Daisy J. to slow down because there were bumps on the road. The driver proceeded to weave in and out of traffic, still at a high rate of speed. When the driver arrived at the intersection of Carrie Parkway and Erin Station, in the City of Mississauga, she had gone through the red light, making no attempt to stop or slow down. At this time, the passengers say she launched the car airborne, losing control of the vehicle, swerving left and right, then struck the south curb and then made a hard contact against the south cement hydro pole, on the left side of the vehicle.

Daisy J. was then taken to St. Michael's Hospital by ambulance, to Toronto. Daisy J. received staples in her head to close the wound and also had knee and leg injuries which required surgery. Rear passenger, Kevin N., was taken to Trillium Hospital by ambulance with a fractured neck. Doctors advised police that he will take 3 to 4 months to recover from his injuries. Front passenger, Alvin M., was taken to Trillium Hospital by ambulance where he was checked out and released.

Police investigated from where the witness observed the vehicle at a high rate of speed, approximately over 100 km/hr from Burney and Carrie Parkway until the driver failed to stop at the red light at Erin Station Road. The distance there is approximately 800 metres. There is a 50 km/hr sign in plain view on the west side of Carrie Parkway, approximately at 400 metres from Burney and also a curve sign at approximately 500 metres from Burney. Also, just east of Erin Station, on Carrie Parkway, a second 50 km/hr sign, approximately 20 metres from the intersection. Near that sign also is a clearly marked bus stop for the city bus to pick up passengers. The roadway was lit up by street lights. Weather and roads were clear and dry. Weather was not a factor in this case. No charges have been laid at this time. Investigation continues and will follow-up.

Vehicle was towed by Lyons to Lyons Pound.
