Bert & Ernie's Case — Theft Over $5000 — Police Report Client: Bert N. and Ernie H., Accuseds Police Report: At the time of this offence, the accuseds was employed as uniformed security officers for C*** C*** situated at 344 Bob Street in the City of Toronto. On Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at about 2:45 a.m., the accused males while in the company of a third security officer (Dexter C. already charged) went to the 50th floor where the I*** Insurance Brokers company is situated. The office was closed, locked and alarmed. It was at this time that the accused (Dexter C.) who is already charged with the theft used his security key to access the locked office which contained computer equipment. This entry tripped a silent alarm that went unnoticed by another officer detailed to monitor the alarm bank. The accused (Dexter C.) who is already charged was arrested and provided an inculpatory statement to police in which he implicated the accuseds before the Court, Bert N. and Ernie H. in the theft. It is alleged that each of the security officers secreted a laptop under each of their uniform issue bulletproof vests. The three then made their way to the underground parking level where they removed the laptops and placed them in their vehicles. Images of the accuseds were captured on surveillance video and they were seen supporting the stolen property under their body armour with their hands. Members of the 52 Division Major Crime Unit arrested both Bert N. and Ernie H. at their respective homes and advised of their rights to counsel. No recovery on this date of any of the laptops. (Only one laptop recovered
after the arrest of Dexter C.). |
